TextPipe has NO upper limit on the size of files being processed - even files larger than 2GB can be processed or generated. Currently, only the Reverse line order filter requires the entire input file to be read into memory.

Several filters also require an entire ancillary file to be completed loaded into memory:

  • Retain lines found in
  • Remove lines found in

If you need to use these filters, you should try to keep the maximum file size to less than the total amount of physical RAM in your system. This ensures that system performance is still reasonable. For example, a system with 32 MB RAM should be Ok to Reverse Lines of files up to 30 MB in size.

Operating System Limitations

The maximum file size on a FAT32 formatted partition is 4 GB or 4,294,967,296 bytes minus 2 bytes.

The maximum file size on a FAT16 partition under Windows 9.x and ME is 2 GB minus 1 byte.

But the size limit using the FAT16 file system under Windows NT or 2K is 4 GB.

And the NTFS file system has a (theoretical) maximum file size of 16 exabytes or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes (2^64 sectors)
